We started more than 50 years ago with a coverage area of less than 300 square miles of Lafayette Parish in South Louisiana. Thanks to the drive and tenacity of our three founders and eight medics, Acadian Ambulance has evolved into what is now Acadian Companies, a multi-faceted company with a global reach.
Today, Acadian Ambulance provides compassionate and highly skilled medical care to more than 21 million residents and covers almost 63,000 square miles in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. Our fleet of 580 ambulances transports 650,000 patients annually and travels 38 million miles each year, enough to circumnavigate the earth 4.2 times each day.
Acadian Total Security operates a network of three highly sophisticated, bi-directionally redundant call centers with highly trained dispatchers. Acadian’s security call centers are UL Listed and 5-Diamond certified by The Monitoring Association (TMA), setting a standard in the security monitoring industry.
Because Louisiana’s diverse geography of rich swamps, bayous, marsh lands and vast rural areas make quick response by ground ambulances challenging, Acadian Ambulance launched Air Med in 1981. In addition to faster response times in rural areas, Air Med also allowed Acadian Ambulance to quickly reach emergencies offshore.
The availability of Air Med’s fixed-wing fleet when aircraft weren’t being used for medical flights prompted the creation of Executive Aircraft Charter Service. The aircraft’s interior can be easily reconfigured for passenger flights, making it possible for Executive Aircraft Charter Service to provide business and leisure flights throughout the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.
NEMSA now trains at nine different sites throughout Louisiana and Texas and is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. The Academy collaborates with South Louisiana Community College and Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service to educate EMTs and paramedics for agencies throughout the United States.
Over the past 30 years, Acadian expanded their oil & gas medical services and founded Safety Management Systems (SMS). As the oil & gas industry evolves and changes, SMS has continually added services to answer their needs. Today, SMS provides safety, medical, security, health and training services to customers around the world.
