At Acadian Companies’ annual meeting, Shawn Legendre was recognized as the 2018 ESOP Employee-Owner of the Year. Legendre was presented with his award by ESOP Committee Chairperson Hope Lewis.

Acadian’s Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) gives employees the opportunity to own private stock in the company, which means Acadian’s employees are also Acadian’s owners. The ESOP Employee-Owner of the Year award is given annually to an Acadian employee-owner who best exemplifies and promotes employee-ownership within the company.

A native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, Legendre is an EMT in St. James Parish. He joined Acadian Ambulance in 2008 and has been a member of the company’s ESOP Committee since 2010.

He is dedicated to assisting employees in his service area enroll for ESOP when they are eligible. Legendre attends many of the company’s ESOP functions and helps however he needs to make sure the events run smoothly.

In addition to his work on the ESOP Committee, Legendre serves as a new employee preceptor and member of Acadian’s Critical Incident Stress Management Team. He previously served on his area’s safety committee and has earned the Acadian Pride Award, President’s Performance Award and a Meritorious Service Award.

“Shawn goes above and beyond as an employee-owner, an ESOP Committee member and a member of the community,” said Lewis.

Acadian instituted the Employee Stock Ownership Plan in 1993. Acadian sets up a trust fund for qualifying employees and contributes new shares of its own stock or cash to buy existing shares. Acadian employees currently own 80% of the company stock.
