Chris Mixon’s career with Acadian spanned 43 years, from 1981 to 2024. He began as a non-EMT driver in Rayne and worked his way through EMT and Paramedic roles across Louisiana. He also served as a Flight Paramedic on Air Med 1 during much of the 1990s.
Chris played a key role in developing Acadian’s continuing education programs, including CBT lessons, online courses, and webinars through Acadian University and the National EMS Academy (NEMSA). He helped establish the first nationally accredited webinar programs and served two terms as a Louisiana EMS Commissioner.
Among his many honors, Chris was named 1996 Medic of the Year and recognized as an American Ambulance Association “Star of Life”. He also earned NEMSA Employee of the Year in 2015 and multiple meritorious service awards during his service.
Reflecting on his career, Chris says the best part of working at Acadian was the people and the opportunities: “None of what I accomplished would have been possible without the support of everyone I worked with.”
Since returning, Chris has pursued long-distance motorcycle riding and returned to flying, enjoying time in the air with his wife, Lana (also an Acadian Alum). Through the Acadian Alumni Association, he hopes to stay connected with colleagues and celebrate the friendships built over a remarkable career.
