Acadian Ambulance’s Quality Improvement (QI) department, which has 23 team members across its service area, continuously oversees clinical protocols and monitors clinical performance.

One statistic the QI department measured for 2023 was the company’s cardiac arrest resuscitation success rate, which ranks 37% higher than the national average.

The measure is determined by the Utstein Formula for Survival, widely recognized as a way of predicting survival from sudden cardiac arrest. The model’s hypothesis of potential survival rates is based on three factors: Medical Science, Educational Efficiency, and Local Implementation.

“This means significantly more people in our communities survive out-of-hospital cardiac arrests and return to their families,” said Acadian Ambulance Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chuck Burnell. “We believe that by emphasizing advanced provider training, community CPR initiatives, and robust partnerships with local hospitals, the result is a tremendous positive impact.”
